Pickleball for Incarcerated Communities League: Transforming Lives Through Pickleball

Many people have shared stories about how pickleball has positively impacted their lives. Now, an organization called Pickleball for Incarcerated Communities League (PICL) is extending these transformative experiences to incarcerated individuals.

What is PICL? The Pickleball for Incarcerated Communities League (PICL) was founded on the belief that “organized sports can be a powerful tool for restorative justice.” According to the PICL website, their mission is to “introduce pickleball programs into correctional facilities, providing a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation that includes physical activity, skill development, mental health support, and social reintegration.”

What PICL Does PICL is leading the charge to bring pickleball to prisons and jails across the country. They have developed a program in partnership with the Worcester (Massachusetts) House of Correction’s S.T.O.P program (Substance Treatment Opportunity Program), which has shown success in helping inmates collaborate better and enhance their daily lives.

Currently, PICL offers programs in over 40 facilities across 10 different states, with plans for further expansion. The camaraderie and joy that pickleball brings to these individuals are undeniable, as evident from the inspiring video showcasing the program.
